Bacterial Immunity and Host Defense

چکیده
001 Abstract Microbes are the key players for deteriorating the host defense. They enter inside the host system, colonize the host cells, evade the host immunity and ultimately leads to tissue injury and ultimately disease. But the body cells are having strong immune system to combat with these aliens. There are two basic types of immune responses in body for bacterial degradation. Immune response for extracellular bacteria and immune response for intracellular invaders. The extracellular bacteria leads to cellular death via profound inflammation and by producing toxins. The toxins can be either exotoxins or endotoxins. The exotoxins are cytotoxic or interfere with cell function while the endotoxins which are LPS (component of cell wall) are potent activators of macrophages thereby associated with cellular damage.

Epigenetic Modifications of Host Genes Induced by Bacterial Infection
Introduction: Epigenetic mechanisms regulate expression of the genome to generate various cell types during development or coordinate cellular responses to external stimulus. While epigenetics is of fundamental importance in eukaryotes, it plays a different role in bacteria. This article uncovers the most important recent data on how bacteria can alter epigenetic marks and can also contribute t...
متن کاملTranscript analysis of some defense genes of tomato in response to host and non-host bacterial pathogens
The transcript levels of six defense genes including pathogenesis-related gene 1 (PR-1), pathogenesis-related gene 2 (PR-2), pathogenesis-related gene 5 (PR-5), lipoxygenase (LOX), phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and catalase (CAT) were investigated in tomato plants inoculated with Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli as a non-host pathogen and X. euvesicatoria as a host pathogen. Activation o...
متن کاملNeonatal Host Defense against Staphylococcal Infections
Preterm infants are especially susceptible to late-onset sepsis that is often due to Gram-positive bacterial infections resulting in substantial morbidity and mortality. Herein, we will describe neonatal innate immunity to Staphylococcus spp. comparing differences between preterm and full-term newborns with adults. Newborn innate immunity is distinct demonstrating diminished skin integrity, imp...
متن کاملBacterial Evasion of Host Antimicrobial Peptide Defenses.
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), also known as host defense peptides, are small naturally occurring microbicidal molecules produced by the host innate immune response that function as a first line of defense to kill pathogenic microorganisms by inducing deleterious cell membrane damage. AMPs also possess signaling and chemoattractant activities and can modulate the innate immune response to enhan...
متن کاملHost Defense Peptides as Effector Molecules of the Innate Immune Response: A Sledgehammer for Drug Resistance?
Host defense peptides can modulate the innate immune response and boost infection-resolving immunity, while dampening potentially harmful pro-inflammatory (septic) responses. Both antimicrobial and/or immunomodulatory activities are an integral part of the process of innate immunity, which itself has many of the hallmarks of successful anti-infective therapies, namely rapid action and broad-spe...
متن کاملCorrigendum: Pregnane X Receptor Regulates Pathogen-Induced Inflammation and Host Defense against an Intracellular Bacterial Infection through Toll-like Receptor 4
The nuclear pregnane X receptor (PXR) plays a central role in regulating xenobiotic metabolism. We now report a novel role for PXR as a critical negative regulator of innate immunity after infection. Pxr(-/-) mice exhibited remarkably elevated pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine production following infection with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm). Despite the more robust innate immune response, ...
